Bill Wyman (not the bassist, the writer) imagined Mick Jaggers reply to Keith Richard’s bio on Slate and it is some of the best writing I’ve read about the glimmer twins in a long long time.
Essentially, Wyman’s argument for Jagger boils down to this
1. At first Jagger was in awe of Richards rock songs.
2. But heroin and then alcohol got Richards in its sway.
3. Richards song writing went to the dogs.
4. Jagger managed everything by the 70s.
5. An alcoholic Richards, a freebasing Woods and a junkie Charlie Watts dogged out all the rolling Stones.
6. With neither songs nor touring to bring them together, Jagger went his own way.
7. And richards can’t get him back and it is driving him crazy.
Except for Wyman’s complete misreading of Exile On A Mainstreet, he makes a lot of sense and the story is a must read. It is better than Life which aint saying much.I’d love it because finally somebody else nails Jann for lieing about each successive Stones album being “the best since Some girls”
