God And Man? No Religion -by Iman Lababedi

Elsewhere today, I commented on Alyson Camus disbelief. There would be no modern world without Galileo and without Einstein and both of these greats cientists believed in God.

Me? I’m an agnostic who veers far closer to being an atheist than a believe, while everybody I love most, from my immediate family to the woman I love are big time believers. And what about rock stars, eh?  How do they deal with these contradictions? Here are some answers:

Modern Love – David Bowie – Fear of loneliness inherent in modern love  gets Bowie to the Church on time, and the Church puts his faith in God and man and God and man has no religion which makes him scared ogf loneliness and modern love which gets Bowie to the church on time…

Serve Yourself – John Lennon – Lennon famously imagined no religion, here he imagines power in the people as we serve ourselves.

God Only Knows – The Beach Boys – Almost banned at the time, for its reference to the big guy,. It is not actually theoligcal though if you can listen to this beauty and not believe in god…

Every Grain Of Sand – Bob Dylan – Are they God’s footsteps? Are they only Bob Dylan’s thoughts following him?

Whenever God Shines His Light On Me – That’s Cliff Richard singing back-up, a master of purity and faith: no ambiguity at all here. Pure love of Jesus.

When God Dips His Love In My Heart – Hank William – All the god in the world couldn’t save the inventor of modern country from alcohol, pills, and a death at 29 years old in the back of a limo.

You Don’t Love God (If You Don’t Love Your neighbor) – Carl Story – Truer words were never said… So true, Patrick Stickles nicked it dor a song.
