New Music Week Of November 1st: Dat Ding -by Iman Lababedi

Sleazy – ke$ha – Uh oh, could girl wonder be a one trick pony. We’ve been here a coupla times by now: where’s the change up?
Tragic Girl – Weezer -The Pinkerton gig I am so keen on seeing? Same day as Prince. I was thinking hey maybe I will head to Boston and take Helen? Sold out. The new stuff on the deluxe album kills.
Roman’s Revenge (feat Eminem) – Nicki Minaj – Eminem sounds really pissed and Nicki is in a foul foul mood. It is too hostile to be fun by any stretch of the imagination and yet, hold your own with Eminem? The woman can rap.

It’s OK – Cee Lo Green – And so Mr. Green continues to ravish the history of soul and mash em up into something both modern and old fashioned. Here it is a Booker T keyb fix(ated) to a Sam And Dave vibe.
I Hope – Elvis Costello – Personally, I think Spike was the turning point. It was the first album I remember being completely disappointed in. This is a lugubrious over sung, overwritten but if he left the song to simmer a little, pretty enough melody.
Bon, Bon – Pitbull – From his Spanish language newbie Armando, which happens to have all the makings of a classic. I think the sample here cost em a fortune.
What’s My Name (feat Drake) – Rihanna – Will somebody pay Drake cash money to stop singing on Rihanna tracks -he is beyond horrible here. The song, that nanana one from SNL, is nothing much. But it is better than Drake.
Gimmie Dat – Ciarra – World class verbal hook title, slap happy drum machine, and Ciara in pure pop mode. Will it hit? A bit of a rairty in 2010 because all the hooks are rhyhmic so it might not. TRACK OF THE WEEK
Get Back Up (feat. Chris Brown) – T.I. – T.I.’s best track since he got out of jail, heralds his return. Tee is great rapper, he has a dreamy speak sing tine: there is a coolness in his technique that we used to call flow. Brown is having a career year. Brown’s next album will get him back to where he was.
Airplanes – The Ready Set – Since the chorus was already in song, all the Ready Set did was sing the verses as well. Very well done.
