We lost Ari Upp and nothing can make up for it. but the best news in ages that X-Ray Specs -whose one album, handful of singles, have only improved with time, lead singer Poly Styrene is BACK!!!
I knew Poly back in 1979 and thought she was, how you say, a little out there. But out or in, on stage she blew the house down.
I saw all four nights they played at CBGB’s and each one was a gem.
Then rumours of everything from acid casuality (she indulged) to hari Krishna (she also inulged), a fine solo album and… SILENCE!!
Until, produced by Youth of Killing Joke, Poly Styrene returns this December with a new album, Generation Indigo, and on December 20th a christmas song about a mass murderer who dresses up as Santa Claus.
Sounds like a blast to me and it is great to have Poly back.
And to prove it, here is Poly in a recent interview:
The moment that changed me for ever… was seeing a Day-Glo UFO in Doncaster one night after a concert. It was a bright ball of luminous pink, made of energy – like a fireball. Everyone else thought I’d lost the plot.
