Elvis Costello: National Ransom My Best Album In Years

Here is Elvis Costello speaking to vanity fair about his new album: “Who can say? I feel as if everything and nothing is possible. I’m very proud of this record. I think it may be the best record I’ve made in terms of the latter part of my career. Where it goes and what it means to who I am? I will carry on for as long as I feel I want to do this. But it has to be really worthwhile, because I want to be with my wife and my family—all the members of my family—the most I can. I can’t put up with bad gigs or wasted opportunities. It has to count, because there’s somewhere I’d rather actually be.”
People are getting mad at me for ragging on EC all time time. But, his best album since…? For The Stars? That was 2001 and it was a very good album, but it can’t compare to these EC albums:
My Aim Is True
This Year’s Model
Armed Forces
Get Happy!!
Trust
Imperial Bedroom
That skips Almost Blue but otherwise is a chronology of greatness that overwhelms his entire career.
he came close a little later.
King Of America
Blood And Chocolate
Painted from Memory
and a coupla borderline brilliance
Brutal Youth
For the Stars
But from 2002’s  When I Was Cruel thru National Ranson? Costello has been dreadful.
There is room for as many opinions as there are writers at rock nyc but people here are getting sick of my constant Costello bashing.
I dunno what to say. he sucks and he needs to get back to basics.
