In 1975 a little film called The Rocky Horror Picture Show came out and coolz all over the world discovered a campy lingerie farce filled with innuendo and stiletto.
Shocking enough with Tim Curry as the sweetest of transvestites who creates his own love toy (jealous!) and corrupts the squares.
A few years later its a cult favorite and the clove cigarette smoking hipster fucks are acting it out and all doing the Time Warp and telling me I’d love it.
Screw that I’m no bandwagon jumper. Lets face it if I didn’t discover it, it didn’t happen. Or so thought my very progressive 14 year old mind. It then became a mission that I NEVER see it.
Screw that.
So now its what, its the 35th Anniversary…wooo. So?
So now its so mainstream that gag reflex testers such as Fox’s Glee are going to take a ride on it.
What was so taboo, so jaw dropping so fringe so …….GAY is now bland as white rice.
So what did it take to get me to finally watch it?
The Boss. Who straight up said it was time, and Netflix, who has it streaming.
So I buckled down- and flipped it on.
I will state one thing first and foremost, before any of my bitchy cynicism get in the way.
Richard O’Brian is a fucking genius, has THE sexiest voice in this film and somehow wrote and performed in a totally fucked up acid trip and snagged along millions of fans like freaking fish in a net.
Well done. I fell in love with him the moment he opened the door, I want to go hang out with him, grab a coffee or something. Hes a way cool dude. Way ahead of his time and right on time at the same time. Enough of the plot line and the blow jobs and pool orgy’s, made props to this dude… holy cow brilliant, even if it were shroom induced.
It seems to me that Tim Curry as the infamous Frank N Furter made it a-ok to be a queen and although at times he resembled a strangely coiffed 50s housewife, his corset get up was pretty hot and if I were a gay dude I’d want him bad. Instead as a chick I totally want his shoes.
Musically catchy- that 50s sorta doo wop thang (whats with this and the Little Shop having the same sort of tone?)
Campy and catchy, they are lyrics that I knew without seeing the film simply from 35 years of hanging out with theater freaks.
Hands down “Time Warp” wins the song contest. Cept that screechy broad part, just wasn’t feeling it but whats to feel.
How would this film fare now?
Well at the moment being gay couldn’t be more popular. Despite the horrific bullying that has come to light and basic acts of human cruelty that have existed since the dawn of man but finally get some headline.. well being gay is cool.
Lesbianism or bisexualism is almost a course offered in high school its if you’re a chick, its time to test drive a chick.
Boys well you still have it a bit more tough but its OK now. You can be you and well despite some assholes, no ones going to fuck with you too much.
Hell I got called a fucking idiot for not liking Kings of Leon, point is some people just like to whip out their dicks and be the big shot. Fuck um.
Oh where was I..
so yeah Rocky Horror, meh its a good one. Gives people something to do at midnight with toast and I do really really love toast.
With the anniversary could potentially make it easier to find cool garter belts and stilettos too so its a win win.
Yeah I saw it…it was good.
