What were Elixabeth And the Catapult thinking?
Meant to start their set at 10p , they dither about sound checking till 10:15p. Then the guitarist keeps on interrupting the set to ask for more and less and in the middle sound.
And half an hour later they are pulled off stage.
This was absolutely ridiculous especially when they got their act together enough to actually perform, they were great. From a Jackson Browne-y piano based opener to a foot stomping “Go Away My Love” to jammed out “Taller Children” to first single closer “You & Me” everything was wonderful, the sound just plain terrific. The new album released on Tuesday, The Other Side Of Zero.is a singer-songwriter for band y written and arranged songs ranging from folk to rock and back. It is actually just about perfect and some of it, the title track for one, “Dreamcatcher” for another, I was really dying to hear life. But I don’t. “go on youtube” Elizabeth Ziman recommends. Er? I am here because I want to hear em live.
Me and everybody else at a packed to the gills Rockwood.
Ziman playing an organ on top of a piano performs beautifully, the troublesome guitarist, switches from guitar to bass, the cellist more than shading and the drummer restrained for the most point. On an acapella plus drums number the audience joins in, and though the fiddling about with the sound gets in the way -I’m guessing there was no soundcheck, the band still manages to build up a head long momentum.
Still, six songs? Cmon guys, when you have a 45 minute set don’t blow the first 15minutes because you aren’t on time.
I’m off to youbute i guess…
