There is a great deal to be said about a man with a smile. Tarcy Thomason, lead man of the band Artist vs Poet has an easy demeanor and a enormous smile. A calm exterior and humble walk and well.
He chose not to return our calls. Upon meeting him upstairs in the green room he was cordial enough but in the flippant way of sure I’ll get back to you disappeared into his own set up and preparation for performance. Fair enough.
Tarcy was celebrating his birthday on this opening night of Fearless Friends Tour and the teen girls were around gift bags in hand.
Happy Birthday Sir, best of all in the new year.
So the performance?
This was my second time seeing AvP, bigger stage than last time, bigger ego boxes on it as well. This isn’t a slam- seriously look at the below photo..what the heck its Jesus on the Mount.
Happy engaging swingy, and third man up on the bill of 6. I’m glad we were able to catch their set. I would say the crowd though quite small at that time (set was 6:45, most of these kids needed a lift from parents who had yet to change out of their work duds.) enjoyed what they saw.
When a remake gets your biggest move, in this case Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’, well its a good indication that the crowd isn’t quite familiar with your work but hell we can sing along to that.
And they did
Loudly and happily.
Artist vs Poet is a very good band in a very over saturated genre. Without a hook without a connection I fear they’ll get lost in the shuffle. Not quite the appeal of a Never Shout Never, not really diverse like a Mayday Parade but a nice easy complimentary warm up for the tour.
Well done and Happy Birthday. Careful on those boxes.
