Kinda Kinky Metallica – by Alyson Camus

Ray Davies from the Kinks will release an album of duets on November 1st and it is amazing how many rock musicians have recorded with him, from Bruce Springsteen, to Bon Jovi, Lucinda Williams, Jackson Brown, Spoon, Billy Corgan, and Metallica on ‘You really got me’, yes the trashy heavy metal band which you would not see immediately pair up with 60’s pop melody maker Davies.
But they had already performed together a medley of this song with others (like ‘All Day and All of The Night’) at the Rock and Roll 25th anniversary at the Madison Square Garden in 2009, and amazingly, it worked totally, with Metallica’s hard rocking solo guitars, and Davies’ voice, still strong. So did the Kinks invent metal in the 60’s? Well James Hetfield introduced the Kinks as the original punks, so whatever, punk, heavy metal, rock nothing is new after all.
