Runaway – Kanye West – I am not sure if this is a perfect minor or major song. But it is perfect: the piano notes that repeat sink in so deep.
Speak Now – Taylor – This is crazy. How can she maintain this standard of song craft. Song after song. For years. Better than “Mine” -this is killer the way “Love Story” is killer: it just tugs you along in everything that makes a pop song special. An enormous song.
How – Ozzy Osbourne – He suits subtlety so well it is really quite weird. His voice isn’t Lennonish except they both sound English, but at the hear of “How” it is diffident and a tribute and very, very controlled. Ozzy double tracks himself here and there and it is like he is underlining himself. TRACK OF THE WEEK
Cave – Chiodos – There might be an excuse for this lazy white noise jive, but it is lost on me. The vocal is ghastly.
Troubled World (feat Estelle and Lil Mo) – The voices are good and Faith is more than good, but the song disappears as you listen to it.
1,000 Years – The Corin Tucker Band – It isn’t “Doubt” but it isn’t bad.
Doubt – The Corin Tucker Band – This is “Doubt” and it is a hard rocker liked a revved up car.
In The Morning – Fran Healy – Ugh. What happened to him.
Crucify – Bring Me The Horizon – Hey, at least this guy can sing. And the song is pretty good but the vocals seem to be at issue with music -it is pop punk married to hardcore. Screaming is all well and good… but not all well and necessary.
Wide Open – Sugarland – Apparently “Stuck Like Glue” was an anomalie, because this is the usual pop sap sub Fleetwood mac plus twang.
