Jones’ show was a cool show from noon to 2 pm (and re-broadcasted in the late afternoon) during which he basically had carte blanche and could play whatever he wanted, even very rare tracks from some obscure band, during which he could invite anybody and the result was often surprising, and always entertaining. Jones had this unique way to make this airtime his home, his special place with an irreverent chat, talking incessantly about his latest health scare or some new video game, evoking his fond memories of the good old times, when he used to sleep with Chrissie Hynde among other anecdotes, and of course ‘visiting the duke’ at times (his way to announce commercial breaks). One thing about him, he really loved LA, and he was at ease, doing a live radio show in his town.
And I miss him… he was funny.
But he is back! This Sunday at 7PM, Jonesy’s Jukebox returns on the air with a new incarnation on KROQ, a radio I never listen to, and which was the constant mockery of 103.1 DJ’s at the time. But things have changed and this announced jukebox description seems to fit the old format we used to know with ‘unreleased tracks from indie bands, b-sides, songs from bands that are bubbling under, KROQ classics and cuts from his personal music collection; anything he wants to play’
