Urge Overkill is credited for helping to create and develop thealternative rock scene that swept through and dominated the 90s. Now,
after a 12 year hiatus, they are back in the studio and back on the road
with new songs and old.
They rocked out at the Mercury Lounge tonight to a thoroughly ecstatic
crowd. The place was packed, which isn’t all that easy considering its
a miserable Monday night here in nyc.
The band started off with a few of their older hits and eventually got
into some of their newer stuff. The third song of the set was their new
hit “The Effigy.” It sounded much the same as their older songs, but as
the guy in the grey beard standing next to me said, don’t fix it if it
ain’t broken. The rest of the crowd agreed. They got a long warm
reception from everyone there after that one.
