It’s like a hostel at my apartment the other day. Two car loads full of friends came in town for last nights rave in Wilmington, staring the one and only Bassnectar. This will be one of the biggest concerts in our area in over a decade.
Our concert squad of about 15 assembled a few hours before showtime, got completely decked out with assorted glow paraphernalia and black light paint tribal tattoos. We looked like the most hardcore members of the Space-Glow mafia.
Libraries, wilmington locals, were just finishing up their set upon our arrival to the Coastline Convention Center. Its always great to see college kids doing it big onstage, one of the members, Tommy Kitrick, is actually in one of my classes at UNCW.
Filastine was due up next, he was alright, nothing too spectacular. We were there for La Nectar de la Bass, and Bassnectar only, that’s the mood we had been hyping to ourselves all month and we were just more than ready to get whomp whomped at point blank from the 10′ speakers. Filastine could have been more then amazing, and I probably wouldn’t have known.
Eskmo hit the stage next, he did a much better job of filling the void that was currently in my head from not enough bass. But for real lets cut to the chase, we were ALL there for Bassnectar.
Finally, about 11 he hit the stage. Glowsticks starting flying, (8,000 to be exact). Bass started dropping. People started jammin. Sweat started flying. The party started starting! This was exactly what the doctor had ordered.
This was a much different experience for me, I have seen Bassnectar 3 times before, however each was in an outdoor setting. This was inside, much more intimate, and much much more hot/sweaty/up close and in your faace. It was amazing!
Everyone had a blast, this show will go down in history, as the show that hyped the music scene here in little ol’ Wilmington, NC. There will certainly be more greatness to come now, I can’t wait.
Bassnectar is continuing his tour w more stops in NC, TN, and DC
