I love supporting local music, and upcoming bands. Now, Cam Boucher is no newbie, but his latest project, Sorority Noise, was founded just in September and has already made their way into my top 10 list. They’re absolutely fantastic and have a Joyce Manor feel and pack a serious punch. They were the last band to play that night, just after Elvis Depressedly, and I was beyond stoked to see them in action.
“Still Shrill” live was great. It was the first tune of theirs I’d ever heard and the energy of the trio was great. I was incredibly impressed and these guys each were incredibly talented on their own, but together, they’re phenomenal. “I thought I’d grow out my hair to see if you’d notice, and I’d start dressing nice to make you believe that I’m alright,” was the opening line to the powerful song. They gave it their all and I grew proud to be a part of my local scene. This band has a ridiculous amount of potential and I know that they’re going to just continue growing- to be able to have just seen them in their living room before they get massively popular is really freakin’ cool.
The last song of their set was “Mediocre At Best”, my favorite song ever as of late. “Nobody likes me; that’s what I tell myself. I live alone in my own hell. I want to be the person you want me to be that I know that I’ll never be.” Their lyrics are brilliant and poignant, and I can’t get enough of the melody and how talented they all are.
Support ’em, and check out their bandcamp. You won’t regret it.
