Why Having A Hit Album Isn’t Having A Hit Album Anymore by Iman Lababedi

The  difference between album and singles charts, with albums being much more adventurous whether it be Aveneged 7Fold or Arcade Fire, is the difference between fan base and pop momentum.
You can sell 30,000 and have a top ten album today and if you have any sort of fanbase you cam sell 30,000 units.
But then you disappear.
The only way to maintain an album in the charts is through hit singles.
That’s why Lady Gaga will spend over a year on the charts but Arcade Fire are come and gone in the blink in the eye.
Ergo? The album is dead.
