Music and College are almost synonymous in my mind.
Freshmen year, every 18 year old plasters the band or rapper, that “most represents them,” all over their dorm room wall.
Sophomore year, countless bands are formed every day and then dissembled just as quickly. We spend our time going to as many concerts as possible, ranging from Jay-Z to Matisyahu to Slightly Stoopid to Rakim to Widespread to whoever else would dare venture to the other no wheres of North Carolina.
Then its cool to go out and support every local band that starts in your area, they’re students like you and they’re doing something cool; support em!
Bands play on campus sometimes during class, tunes blasting out of dorm windows , 40% of kids have headphones in at all times.. Music and College, great friends forever.
Its my last semester of college; I couldn’t be happier to have the burden of school off my shoulders, so I can hypothetically move back to NYC, focus full time on my music company, writing, and whatever else mischief I can find myself in. I couldn’t be freakin out anymore about real life and having to work 10-7 everyday, and not having enough time to do whatever it is that I Love. All the best friends I’ve made and gone to so many concerts with, from sold out MSG to a 40 person Two Fresh show here in town, I’ll be somewhat, saying ‘bye’ to. This pressure forces me to socialize, (partying and getting laid all the time is such a drag, I know my life sucks) ALL the time, leaving me little time to think, write, and tend to Woody enterprise ( anything that contributes to my future and its success). I somehow haven’t had as much time to see live shows, only about 1 or 2 per week, and again have not had enough time to write, which has become quite therapeutic for me, as well as enjoyable, which saddens me and leaves me feeling stressed and flustered.
But its college, I always feel stressed and flustered about one thing or another. And its music, I still get to see 1 or 2 shows a week, righteous. Music will always be in any college scene from now until infinity, and college will always be the underlying theme in most music,( Mike Posner’s “Drug Dealer Girl” music video was filmed at Duke, and without any permission from the University is word on the street).
Eleven Bands that formed in college:
1.R.E.M. 2. MGMT 3. Radiohead 4. Better Than Ezra 5. The Strokes 6. Styx 7. Pink Floyd 8. Coldplay 9. Queen 10. Creed 11. Vampire Weekend
Whats the point of this rant? Who knows. But I love music, and I loved college, (but not how Asher Roth does) , and I’m just stoked that my past love and my current/future love are still friends.
