How I love every sound that comes out of The Decemberists’ Colin Meloys mouth. The innocence the decadence that time travel sounds that slaps you somewhere between Waltons Mountain and Oliver Twist or something….something just way back then. Yet with the most modern implications.
Yes clove smoking latte drinkers claim The Decemberists as their oh so artsy leaders, and well I gotta say so do I.
So when I heard they were performing at Seattles Bumbershoot Festival I had the YES exclamation of their going to tour!! (no way in hell will they ever come this far and if they did Id be in the hospital with some bizarre disease). Its a band I highly doubt i will ever see live.
Then I got the I HATE THE WEST COAST thing, cuz when they do play live they’re there or in Europe.. but then I had the even better thought of NEW SONGS!
The third was granted.
Through the joy of bootleg videography THREE new Decemberists songs were unveiled in that rainy upper left corner of our country.
“Down By The Water”, “June Hymn”, and “Rise To Me”
Great they sound very The Decemberistsish! I always worry they’ll lose their very distinct sound and so far not happening.
“Down by The Water” is a bit too twangy, but “Rise to Me” makes me VERY excited to hear the new release.. that i hope is released and toured upon thereafter.
So now.. we catch the bootlegs on Youtube and we wait…maybe new Decemberists in December? That’d be cool.
