On Friday night, 18 major television networks including ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX were simultaneously broadcasting the Stand Up to Cancer telethon, during which hundreds of actors, musicians, were trying to raise millions of dollars for cancer research. There were the cancer survivors (Christina Applegate or Lance Armstrong), the cancer battlers (Michael Douglas), and everybody else from George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, to Renee Zellweger and Ryan Seacrest. I saw a short snip of it including Stevie Wonder, Joe Armstrong and Neil Diamond.
It was only lasting an hour but the best was happening on line, as there was an ‘after hours’ show featuring Fitz and the Tantrums, Orianthi, Natasha Bedingfield and Heart, and the event could be streamed online at ABC, ABC News, AOL, Bing, CBS, CBS News, Crackle, Discovery Health, E! Online, FOX, G4, Hulu, Livestream, MLB Network, MSN, mun2, NBC, Style Network, TV Guide, TV One, Ustream, VEVO, VH1, Wonderwall.MSN.com, omg.yahoo.com and YouTube!
But let’s Fitz explains himself:
The video is filmed in front of Dangerbird Records headquarter on Sunset boulevard, a label which has signed such artists as Silversun Pickups, Minus the Bear, Darker My Love, Hot Hot Heat, and of course Fitz and the Tantrums
Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz, the son of Dangerbird co-founder Jeff Castelaz, died last year after a long struggle against cancer at the young age of 6. This certainly explains why it is a cause so meaningful for the label.
But today, the following was posted on Fitz & The Tantrums’ facebook page:
‘We would like to Apologize to those of you that tuned in on You Tube yesterday expecting to see FATT on your tube. Unfortunately due to time conflicts our portion of the show was cut. However we wouldn’t take a second of our experience back. Please support SU2C’s Cause and organizations like it. The Battle for Cancer can only be fought with all of us.’
