MoogFest 2010, a three-day festival that starts on October 29 in Asheville, North Carolina. Devo will perform as part of the festival lineup, which also includes MGMT, Massive Attack, Big Boi, Disco Biscuits, Cee Lo Green and more.
This years “Moog Innovation Award” goes to one of my old time faves Devo.
We saw them at the Olympics we’ve covered them as they prepped their latest album and now we’re pre congratulating them on an honor bestowed for creativity in the field of popular music.
Without doubt Devo blazed a path of uniqueness from the Jocko Homo to the Whip It to the continuing creativity used by its members to score film and television. Makes me proud of my generation that a band could have not only longevity bu the ability to grow and change in a viable way. They aren’t simply playing their old hits, they’re creating unique and welcoming sounds to this day.
Moog Music’s Emmy Parker said in a statement to the press.
“Like Bob Moog Devo enthusiastically charted their own course and thus dramatically affected pop culture because of it,”
“Not to mention the fact that they used Moog instruments to create their inimitable sound.”
Way to go guys! Congrats, on top of the award and performances at Moog, they’ll be presented a custom synth in commemoration.
I suggest we all Slap our Mammy in tribute.
Check out the other moogers and shakers here.
