There are a few differences between my life in NYC, over past 4 months, and now my final phase down in Wilmington, NC.
Are you kidding me? It couldn’t be further polar opposites of locations.
Mama said “don’t talk religion or politics, if you wanna keep friends”, so I’ll leave that at that.
NC is slow, very slow. NYC is fast, very very fast.
The greatest thing NC has over NYC is stars. At night when you look up, you can actually see thousands of tiny lights.
“What are those?” I asked my friend in amazement, after a chill sesh at the beach last night. I had almost forgotten about my favorite thing.
One thing these places have in common is not giving me enough time to listen to music. In NYC, my job wasn’t too found of me blasting tunes. In class, teachers get a little vexed when you have your headphones in during lecture.
My time comuting to class, walking on campus, and my 15 minute break between class is when I get a majority of my daily dose of big tunes.
Songs of the day:
1. Birdy Nam Nam – Abbesses.
A combination of 4 French DJs all bringing a little something something to the table as far as sound is concerned for each song. Quite a different, groovy thing they’re doing. I dig it.
2. Wale – The War
Off his “More About Nothing”, Sienfeld inspired mixtape. Each song is “The” whatever , like each episode. And many songs have some Sienfeld samples at beginning or end.
3.The Animals – House of the Rising Sun.
Traditional song given the Brit Invasion touch, nice and soulful, esspecially for a self song-a-long.
4.Bill Withers – Use Me.
Got sucked into more soul. Yesss, lucky me. Bill Withers rocks my socks. Makes me want to head to Riverside, St. Marys and listen to friend Ryder’s awesome vinyls collection, “Use Me” included.
5. Steve Aoki – “Pursuit of Happiness” Remix
After this past weekend seeing Steve Aoki live at the Zooo, this song, along with many others, “Warp” included have been imprinted in my brain for days maybe years to come.
6. Aloe Blacc – “I’m Beaufitul”
From the guy who brought you the, How to make it in America, theme song, “I need a dollar”, comes even more soul; a lost art in this modern day.
