Mike Portnoy leaves Dream Theater! – (Blame AX7)
Big news for prog-rock/metal fans.
Longtime drummer and co-founder of the Long Island based band Dream Theater has left the band after 25 years.
Don’t understand why he did this. He is stating that he has better relations now as the “fill-in” drummer for AX7.
It is like a person married for 25 years, then someone has a fling and decides to jump ship with the young tramp. Portnoy started Dream Theater way before the members AX7 were even born. Why is Mike leaving? He probably wants to re-capture his youth. I predict, that AX7 will dump him in a year or so, and then Mike will come to his senses and re-join DT.
One of the main reasons people go to Dream Theater shows to see Mike Portnoy.
Portnoy out of DT, is like Neil Peart out of Rush or Tommy Lee out of Motley Crue or (if he was alive and Led Zep was still a band), John Bonham out of Led Zep. These guys make these bands and are a huge force in them.
