When my ticket says show 7pm I expect the show to be at say.. hmmm maybe 7:30. I’m going to stroll in and check stuff out maybe grab a drink or something but tonight at 6:50 I heard music…..and hauled ass to our suite. Why?
Cuz the first band was on…
Testament were ripping the place apart and I felt short sheeted. I have no idea what I missed since I have no idea how early they went on. They were fantastic but comical at times. That whole tongue wagging devil horn things seems so.. so KISS but if you could shake that and the silly Gothic Castle backdrop they were jaw droopingly good.
These are not kids
This is not a garage band. These are most likely grand dads I’d say, kicking ass and from a distance still looking hot as hell. I would not have wanted to be closer.
I took going to this gig as a lark. I’m not a metal fan I’m a hardcore girl and well meh.. lets feel some 80s.
What I have determined is I will back catalog Testament cuz they were just so damn good. Theatrically flat but musically fit. Vocals were outstanding though somewhat cliche. I wasn’t there for deep meaning soulful lyrics, I was there for fun and fun it was.
Megadeth was the draw for my crew. Stoked to see ‘legends I plopped down blackberry in hand and got to doing what I do best. Being oblivious to all around me. But in this particular instance I couldn’t.
The band was engaging and tight. They had some silly voice over Orwell 84 stage thing going on but I just kept screaming ‘pull back the curtain’ cuz I was pretty sure the Wizard of Oz was behind there. But again for my cynicism I was paid well in good powerful music.
This is not set for wimps this is not Poison this is insane blood pumping angry metal. A bit away from us (thank god) was a man who was literally thrusting his pelvis in time into a guard rail. Fascinating yet some what disturbing. That dude was fucking metal…literally.
But I digress.
I thought Megadeth did a great job their fans love them….lots and the set was fun though I think it was supposed to be bad ass. 1992 would have had the set ‘cool’ 2010, well its sorta rec room chic for the businessman set. Get off me now, I said they were good. Still glad to be at a distance though.
Headlining act Slayer came on near 10. Yeah that’s how fast this gig went. But they all had shows to watch or pills to take or something.
Slayer had by far the most pathetic set I have ever seen. They came out in a fury and became a blur.
I think they’re the band you need to be a fan of to appreciate. If I were familiar with their work I may have felt the need to stay but nah.
I packed up my good time and hit the road after 2 songs. No disrespect but seriously, there was no reason to stay it all sounded the same and I was sorta scared about the rail banger.
