You might notice I missed Sneak Peaks this week, there is a reason and it is self-evident and true, new releases are dead for about the next month. Music seems to come to a complete fulls top through mid January when it starts picking up steam again. Beyonce’s albums smartness wasn’t just its secrecy but its timing, there was just about no competition around. There was nobody else anybody wanted to listen to.

The theory appears to be that by December 17th, there is no reason to try and hit the Christmas stockings since music works through repetition and every album that is gonna catch on has caught on and you can go about your business.

It seems to me a possibility that the casual listener will not be buying albums they don’t really know for friends and lovers and that’s true but on the other hand, serious music fans won’t be taking the holidays off and this will be a terrific opportunity to reach people who wouldn’t have the time to check out stuff they don’t know under normal circumstances.

For the right band, a Saint Motel say it is a perfect opportunity to make a holla in a world of clutter. In a world where you can’t hear a thing for all the sound and where the ability to get up and get attention is of equal importance as to what you are singing to and for or from: the sheer volume of music has become the message, there is so much music and so much of it, even in a bad year, is of so much value that you need to be slippery, you need to find the whiles. Mid December to Mid January is exactly when you need to release your music in the 21st century…. People might even hear it!
