Elijah Wood was spinning records at Amoeba music this afternoon, from 2 to 4 pm. I caught him during the last half hour of his DJ afternoon. I did not recognized much of what he played, there was some Arabic inspired music at one point, but he finished up with The Velvet Underground’s ‘I’m sticking with you’
He has founded a label ‘Simian Records in 2005, so he knows about music, qualify himself as a ‘record nerd’ and seems to seriously enjoyed himself behind the turntables.
Earlier, he picked up some vinyl at Amoeba: Soviet Funk Vol. 2, Gal Costa, Ia Batiste, Small Faces, The Raincoats, Willows Songs, Bo Diddley, Breakwater, 13th Floor Elevators… pretty obscure stuff for most of it!
