Summer festival such as Warped or Bisco or Mayhem are incredible events that carry a dangerous potential.
It has been reported that a fan died at Warped Tour yesterday in Kansas City. Reason?
Dehydration.
Its so easy to simply forget to hydrate. In the excitement of the day the movement of the crowd the inevitable lines at concessions- I’m honestly surprised this hasn’t happened sooner.
This particular story really scares me though.
So I’m using it as a way of driving home the importance of living like a rock star, sensibly.
2 years ago The Magpie collapsed at Projekt Revolution. There alone in a crowd of thousands I saw her become disorientated. I got ahold of her in the crowd and she couldn’t move her legs. Almost paralyzed, unable to speak eyes dilated. I used my elbows as weapons and climbed a barricade to lift her out. Ninja mother indeed.
As I tugged her 100lbs out her eyes rolled back. She whispered the words “mommy help’
and with that collapsed in my arms.
By the time this came about a very burly security guard found us got a wheel chair and we sprinted at a speed I never thought I could reach to the medic tent. Pass buses of rockers who stood to see the little girl with the pink hair and the black haired lunatic running aside her pass.
We got to the tent where her vitals were checked and water flowed.
She was told not to move.
I signed papers.
Phones rang people came in and out and she was so pale.. its hard to even think about
Please, as we hit the final month of true summer, please.. stay hydrated.
Obviosuly the kid is fine. She came back after a rest as a crowd of chain wearing hardcore boys cheered her. Stopping to say how cool she was for not just going home I snapped this picture right before we stepped out. To remind me to never let it happen again.
The security guys kept passing her water- and she made it through the day.

Im scarred for life. Im terrified all the time. To read this is more than I can handle.
It could have been her, it could have been me, it could have been Iman.. it could be any of you.
Its simple- use common sense.
