A Monday Morning Shuffle Just For You by Iman Lababedi

1. A Design For Life – Manic Street Preachers – At the height of Brit Pop, MSP released this whiny rock work and cleared the decks for awhile.

2. Pas de Cheval – Panic At The Disco – Panic had a gift for writing songs you could swear you’d heard before. The title is a ballet move, guess they were losing their balance.

3. Luv Shaq – Chrissy Murdebot – Love this remix, love the way the bass and drums bubble all over it.

4.The Dancer – PJ Harvey – There is a reason To Bring You My Love is Polly Jean’s most popular album. The reason is: it’s her best. PS? I saw her three times on this tour.

5. The General Specific – Band Of Horses – Country Byrdsy.

6. Solisbury Hill _ Peter Gabriel – About how his record label won’t let him release the single he wants off the current album. Or something.

7. Polly – Nirvana – Off Unplugged, one of two songs I actively dislike (the other is “Rape Me”)

8. Off Broadway – Ryan Adams – Sounds like Neil Young only more morose.

9.Cash On The Barrelhead/Hickory Wind – A hoe down and a sore story. Love the yodel at the end of the first song.

10. Say Goodbye To Hollywood – Eminem – Still whingeing about Kim, still great sample.

11. The Flowers – Regina Spektor – Early stuff, more classically leaning.

12. Ya Estas Lista  Para Amor – Grupo Mania – Horns are impeccable of course, but the vocal doesn’t swing it hard enough.

13. Anyone Else But You – The Moldy Peaches – I didn’t begrudged them their fifteen minutes. But I don’t wanna hear it.

14. Red Cotton – Elvis Costello – a) A crime against agricultural produce. b) Just what the world needs, a song against slavery. c) wait, i’ve got another.

15. Forget All ABout It – The Nazz – Prog-pop from 1969, as Mike Nessing would be sure to remind us!!

16. Fools – The Temper Trap – Like the XX only worse.

17. Step Inside/Los Paranoais – The Beatles – Macca demo for the song he gave to Cilla (great song ps). When I want to listen to the Beatles (exceedingly rare occurance), I go to this instead of the 200 odd songs in the catalogue. The second half is a fun little rave up -also a demo.

18. Under The Boardwalk – The Drifters – Oddly, while I am burnt on 60s pop, I still can hear 50s pop.

19. What We Gained In The Fire – The Mynabirds – Maintains his melancholic allure.

20. Nothing Even Matters – Lauryn Hill – And she is playing at Rock The Bells this August!!!

21. Rider, Pt 1 – G Unit – Anything older than old pop hop? Still, the horns track is pretty good.

22. Beat It Up (feat Trey Songz) – Gucci Mane – Gucci is so good, he makes Trey’s chorus listenable.

23. Bye Bye Love – The Everly Brothers – Know how I said I can still hear 50s rock? Yeah, not this one.

24. Fake Friends – Joan Jett – Off her greatest achievement, one of her best songs. Best rhyme: “the sycophance to make romance..” WOOOOT

25. Mr. Bad Luck – Jimi Hendrix – Bluesy.

26. Cold Cold Heart – Americans In France – The opening guitar here is a revelation -Lajoie’s playing seems a little under the radar.

27. Suicide Machine – Elliott Smith – One of his greatest moments to my mind. From the guitar link opening (sounds like Harrison on slide), to a mid-tempo rocker like Tom Petty at his best, all folkie manifestations are stripped out and he comes across as a contemporary classic rocker. A great song. Alyson, is it only available as a boot. Conor, cover it.

28. The Shape I’m In – The Band – Off Before The Flood which means it rocks with extra punch.

29. Big Man In Town – Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons – Killer falsetto, it took three singers backstage to replicate it on Broadway.

30. Do Do Do – Nellie McKay – Somewhere Ella is smiling.

31. Remember Me – Eminem – Ominous shit.

32. One Love/People Get Ready – Bob Marley – From the must own Songs Of Freedom, with the Wailers.

33. Dancehall Stylee – Sugar Minott – No, really. From the early 70s and it was about to change reggae AGAIN.

34. Water Builds Up – Brain Wilson – He was out of his mind but melody was pouring out of him. From the boot Sweet Insanity.

35. I’m Not Like Everybody Else – The Kinks – Ray Davies absolute rock manifesto -this is what we are trying to say when we say we love rock music: “I don’t want to live my life like everybody else”. That’s what it means to love this stuff. It means to be you.
