I’m constantly appalled and disgusted by the things I see in the music industry. Be it the actions of a celebrity or a song with questionable lyrics, there’s always something to bat a lash at. However, nothing has quite struck me like In This Moment’s “Whore” music video. It’s a female-fronted hardcoremetalwhatever band, and this video features Chris Motionless of Motionless In White, who’s already a douchebag in his own regard. I didn’t really have any intention of watching this video or listening to the song, since I’d never heard of the band before, but the title just made me very intrigued.
First off, it’s a classic scene of the woman seducing a man, claiming “I can be your whore”. Oh, great, what a wonderful message. Misogyny is the new black these days, and to see a woman who is exploiting herself for whatever reason is pathetic and upsetting. Though to be honest, at first, I wasn’t quite sure if she was a woman at all because her voice confused me and then I realised she sounded like a fiftysomething smoker grandmother trying to be sexy or something like that. Ew.
The song itself is absolutely awful. It has no rededeming qualities because of the crappy drumming, weak guitars, and mediocre bass line. Add in a wannabe hardcore girl vocalist on top of that and it’s pure torture. It was practically a joke and I was surprised that these people were taking themselves so seriously. It was genuinely disappointing because to see a woman objectify herself completely for some sort of affirmation or attention is reflective of some awful parenting. Girly, you don’t need to be half naked and a ‘whore’ for men to like you.
