Direct Current And Isobel Campbell

Direct Current is a strange hybrid, tip sheet, advertisment, and website all rolled into one which I kinda like when I’m in the mood.
So they emailed me their current (July 15th) newsletter and I can gonna share with you the highlights…
Apparently there’s a lotta solo going out of bands I was not that keen on for a kickoff. Kathryn Caulder, from the (ugh) New Pornogaphers offers a “piano-based compositions are thoughtful reflections on life and death”. Is there any other kind? Are You My Mother? -her mom had a terminal illness during its writing, which makes a great year for losing Mom’s (me, my friend Maggie and rufus are all newly orphaned.
Another band I never much cared for is Razorlight, Their drummer songwriter and drummer Andy Burrows works out his inner ELO.
Ryan Bingham, has two new songs Direct Current mention and a cover of “That’s How Strong My Love Is” which I have downloaded off the Levi Strauss collection but am putting off listening to with a sense of  enormous trepidation. You just know he is gonna sing it right into its coffing. Plus? Who can hear that fucking song again? Put a fork in it. That’s enough for one lifetime.
I saw Belle And Sebastian at the Supper Club back in the day and got slung out for taping the show!! As for Screaming Trees. I had front row for them opening for Oasis (Manic Street Preachers sandwiched in between) along with my buddy Bobby Nevin. So my feelings about “Isobel Campbell  at the helm again for a new collaboration with gravel-voiced former Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan” is best described as follows: indifference. Let’s see what Direct Current has to say: “her songs and style reflect a more rustic Stateside influence on the project’s moody cinematic ballads and ragged Americana
