Elton John was so cool there was no one close. Musical genious with lyrics that ripped your heart out, made you scream along and showmanship up the wazoo. He owned the 70’s and if you were around and werent a fan. You were too stoned.
So time progresses and we all get older and the world keeps turning and he came out of the closet and he got hairplugs and he got married and
he lost his cool.
So we celebrate what he was a pioneer as performer as a true pop icon.
We settle in to the fact that we all age and we all falter
Then this.
The man responsible for some of the most creative and awe inspiring work is about to record a bunch of covers. I am deeply saddened.
Similar to a great chef cracking open a can of Beef a Roni and slapping some oregano in it. Its just wrong.
To go with this- a pathetic quote to sob over;
I’m going to do a solo album with T-Bone Burnett of 50 songs with an orchestra, in a few takes. A bit of Roy Orbison, Ricky Nelson… songs like Little Things Mean A Lot.”
Final question? How the hell do you do a solo record WITH T-Bone?
sigh…
