Playing at the Montreal International Jazz festival, July 2nd, Lou Reed, John Zorn, and Laurie Anderson nearly got themselves booed off stage and with many requests for refunds and more general walk outs after what they got was a free form, cacaphonous set.
Surely the words free form and John Zorn shoulda been enough to warn the world at large what to expect?
It is, at the very least, an acquired taste. And speaking of acquired tastes: Lou Reed hasn’t done a decent album since New York in 1989 , 20 fucking years ago. A great sing here and there but that’s about it.
