So Helen and Mary are off at Warped and I am back, more or less back, so let’s get back to some REAL MUSIC. First off, I got Scissor Sisters first to singles wrong. The more I listen to Night Work the more I love it. Also, having spent the entire year dismissing Dirty Projectors as whatever after a crap performance at Hall Of Williamsburg, their EP with Bjork is my idea of fun. AND AND AND, after spending days with no music, I went back to listening today and gee, does it make life work living.
1. Post-Life – Kevin Greenspon – Depending upon what he wants to do with the bass and drums, he shouldn’t raise the vocal levels by much.
2. Tell Me Why – MIA – I promise you… this is the MIA we’ve been waiting for, I agree “Teqakila”, but this one has the mix perfectly right.
3. On And Ever Onward – Bjork and DP – How many times am I gonna write about this. I swear, Bjorks vocals remind me of Bjork circa Post. Need any better reason to give it a listen? Even if I’m wrong it sounds like fun.
4.Whole New Way – Scissor Sisters – Is this Paradise Garage or what?
5. I Can Do Anything – 3Oh!3 – Ah, those kids never learn
6. Pick Up The Phone – Dragonette – I’m playing catch up, still on the last batch.
7. Sink/Let It Sway – SSLYBY – As good as the Wavves at their best. Shit, it might be as good as the Romantics.
8. The Suburbs – Arcade Fire – I am officially excited for the album
9. Club Can’t Handle It (feat David Guetta) – Flo Rida – Within 3 months it’ll be Itunes top download.
10. The World – Brad Paisley – I agree with Alyson’s point about ambiguity -but, maybe the nature of all relationships makes people very importaint to sone special other.
11. When The World Comes To An End – Bjork And DP – Wonderful sentiment, wonderful back up vocal.
12. Lady In The Water – Fuzzy G – Woody, are you gonna reproduce this? It deserves it.
13. Teqkilla – MIA – Love the song, hate the spelling.
14. Power – Kanye West Oooha Hey hey.
15. All The Same – The 88 – They sound like heavy rock from the 80s with the blues taken out.
16. Winter Keeps Us Warm – Jack Phillips – Did I mention how tone.
17. King Of The Beach – Wavves – Best punk pop band in the world plus I can spell their name.
18. No Hope Kids – Wavves – Got no car, got no money —he is living my life.
19. Somebody To Love – Irene Diamond – Fabulous cover, try her myspace. I realize this is obscure stuff but that’s what makes today so exciting -you never know where you are gonna find great music.
20. Our Whole Lives – The Hold Steady – This is why I love Helen. I’ve listened to this song many, many times, but it is Helen who pointed out the “Tell my little lambs that I’m on my way home”. I always got unstuck on ” You’re damn right I believe in love, because I’ve been in love and I loved right back.”not to mention “I’m gonna hafta ask you to take two steps back”.
21. Dancing On My Own – Robyn – Robyn, Scissor Sisters… albums of the summer.
22. Coquette, Coquette – Of Montreal – Deserves the double in the title.
23. The Begining Of The End – Fuzzy G – Deserves the cliche.
24. I Will Come Back (Drop The Lime remix) – Holy Ghost! – Everything about it twitches.
25. Cry When You Get Older – Robyn – “Hold on a second I’ve got something on my dirty mind…”
