I keep on getting disappointed by Balance and Composure, and that’s really unfortunate. I used to be a massive fan but their newest album hasn’t impressed me at all. I wanted to watch their music video for “Tiny Raindrop” and give it a second chance. Unfortunately, it poured salt in the wound and I was further let down.
First off, the video is shot in an Instagram filter with some blur and ethereal effects. First off, that’s been done a hundred times and knowing that Jon Simmons, the frontman, is so against ‘selling out’ and is, frankly, a bit full of himself for it, it’s pretty hypocritical. Also, it’s just plain and boring. Simple can be effective, but not in this case. It’s cliche and expansive, boring with no real details to hold on to and drive any sort of story they were trying to get across.
Also, I can’t be the only one who noticed Simmons staring at a ceiling fan and mentioning his head…a steal from Title Fight, their former tour mate? “Head In The Ceiling Fan” is just a bit too similar to the vid.
The concept of the girl in the video continuously disappearing and it’s Simmons’ journey to find her is probably the most boring and irrelevant idea they could’ve come up with. It doesn’t even look good artistically so I can’t appreciate it as a photographer either. There is no saving grace.
As for the tune, it still bores me to death. I can’t get into it at all, and its mediocrity is pathetic.
