Woody Fuller Goes To Camp Bisco

It’s now more official than Chris Brown crying like a little girl , I am going to Camp Bisco 9!! And I nearly pulled a Chris Brown when I reexamined the lineups for those three funky days of music.
If you are unfamiliar with Camp Bisco, I can sum it up simply as a three day dance party to some of the best electro/funk/techno dance music out there.
Day 1- Thursday
It goes without saying but Camp Bisco has some connection to the Disco Biscuits and they are paying every night. So if you like em, GREAT!!   I’m most excited for LCD Soundsystem and Pretty Lights. I have written about both of them and seen Pretty Light twice before. Always, a very high energy intense show. A diamond in the rough, you might not be family with is Two Fresh. This band consists of two brothers (twins) each with their own DJ equipment as well as a live drummer. Seen them twice before as well. They are very skilled and figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, coming out with better material all the time. They have a dope remix to the song “If you like pina coladas…” Took me by surprise during the first show, but its really an awesome song. Some other bands too, most I have never heard of, but I’m sure will rock my socks.
Day 2- Friday
Now for me, one of the main events of the weekend, Thievery Corporation, graces the stage on day 2. I really dig their whole vibe and flow of their music and have been waiting so long to see them live. For me, I can not truly appreciate a band and consider myself a fan until I have seen them live. I looove live music. Thievery Corp is also from D.C., which makes them that much cooler.
Also for the night we have one of the only rap groups performing, Wu Massacre, which consists of Method Man, Ghostface Killah & Raekwon. This is 3 of the original 9 members of the infamous Wu Tang Clan. Method Man is not only one of the best lyricists and hip/hop artists of all time, but also sounds so damn cool when he raps. What a great voice. Meth is also a favorite of long time friend amd fellow writer Chris Morgan, who will be attending show with me. (Happy Birthday homie.) And the night has just begun..
Bassnectar will hit the stage later, followed by Major Lazer and Diplo. Bassnectar, bet you’d never guess, loves and uses a lot of thumping bass in their songs. This makes for great dance music, which can put you in “the zone” while listening to.
The break out performance of the night will surely be Big Gigantic. I have seen once before in Charleston, SC. They consist of DJ and drummer. However, what separates them from every other DJ/drummer combo is that their DJ also plays the sax. I love the sax, and he gets into some grooves and has some in concert jam sessions with his drummer. Those times were very magical, and he stole the show in which i went to see. Also, do not forget to hang around and check out up and coming act Sci Fi, who are originally from Wilmington, NC, where I went to school. They are more of a funky jazz group, and their keyboardist, Tyler Simmons is quite talented.
Day 3- Saturday
Girl Talk will be rippin up his set Saturday night. Seen him before and he put on a great show. You really cannot help yourself but dance to the amazing mash ups he has created. He, personally, comes out with so much energy, and spends his whole set dancing himself sober. He must have lost 3 pounds of sweat during the show I saw, in which I lost 4 pounds, but who’s counting.
Another great rapper, Talib Kweli, will also be taking stage. He is being joined by David Murphy from STS9, and they are joining Break Science, whom I do not think I have ever heard of. However, if they are playing with Kweli and Murphy it has to be a great act. Always been a fan of Talib Kweli, especially his work with Mos Def, they created some great hip/hop. Not too familiar with many of the other Saturday night acts, except for SOJA,(Soldiers Of Jah Army) which is a bunch of white guys with long dreads who play reggae. They are actually not that bad. However, I have known them for a long time and remember when their shows were free and at most $5. So its hard to imagine them being at this show. But don’t get me wrong they are good.
There are 15-25 more bands i have not even mentioned, but its because I really do not know anything about them. When I return from my adventures I will hopefully have new found love for some of them and in turn spread their musical message.
