In 1982, around the time Somewhere In the Stars was released, I did a phoner with Rosanne Cash for East Village Eye.
And if you’ve heard the album I shouldn’t have to explain why I was in love with her.
I have only seen her live once, at the Bottom Line in the 90s as part of a larger Christmas Concert. So though I have gone on the record as calling her the most disappointing great country singer in history, that doesn’t mean she isn’t a great country who decided to slum in he singer-songwriter New York ghetto. A world she is vastly superior to.
So I’ve wanted to see her live many, many times.
Steve Earle I have seen live many, many times. In the 90s? Every single time he came to town without fail. And, in a complete bookend to Rosanne Cash, he is the single most disappointing country singer male division OF ALL TIME.
And, again like Cash, he came to New York and became A SERIOUS ARTIST.
Really, Steve, fuck that shit.
One crap album followed by another followed by a godawful tribute to Townes Van Zandt.
Rosanne Cash is opening for Steve Earle and his wife Alison Moorer who I actually like a lot, at City Winery, July 8th (there are a coupla other dates as well -but without Rosanne). I just know Rosanne won’t be doing “Seven Year Ache” and Steve won’t be doing “Guitar Town” -it’ll be one tedioussolemn paced piece of self-indulgent wank after another.
So for all my bitching I bought a tix: $47.50. 9pm (what the fuck? why 9pm???? why not 730p or 8p?).
I couldn’t help it but now I am completely broke for another two weeks…
