Just Like Candy by Alyson Camus

1. ‘Honey Pie’ – The Beatles: A retro-sounding song, uplifting like a rush of sugar in your mouth.
2. ‘Wild Honey Pie’ – The Beatles: more honey, more pie, but no lyrics, just crazy, short and weird!
3. ‘Savoy Truffle’ – The Beatles: They have never been so sweet for sure, and is it George’s answer’s to Paul’ Pie? This song makes me want to eat tons of deserts for sure.
4. ‘Candy says – The Velvet Underground: a beautifully melancholic song that has nothing to do with real sweets to be honest
5. ‘Sugar Mountain’ – Neil Young: Sugar is connected to childhood right? That must be why some of us still have a crush on sweets, we are leaving it too soon.
6. ‘Chocolate Jesus’ – Tom Waits: A little blasphemy to go with my favorite sweet, Tom Waits is such a storyteller and just give me some salvation through chocolate!
7. ‘She Don’t Use Jelly’ – The Flaming Lips: Sweet, sex and rock’ n’ roll, come on, it is as simple as this, the hit song of the Lips.
8. ‘Caramel’ – Suzanne Vega: sometimes sweets are bad for you and you have to let them go, as painful as it is… as sorrowful as this tune is.

9. ‘Milk and Honey’ – Beck: Actually I have no idea what this song is about, but there was honey in the title, and I like the mixture of sounds, mid Motown mid funky, mid weird electronics. I dare you to make sense of the lyrics, it will have the opposite effect on your brain than milk and honey on your throat.
10. ‘Peaches and Cream’- Beck: I cannot tell you I will make more sense of this one, but there is something sexy going on, on the naughty side, it must be his Prince voice. Definitely a lot of sweetness in the vultures of midnite.
11. ‘Candy’ – IggyPop: Actually this song is a duet with Kate Pierson and there is sweet chemistry, especially an unusual sugary song for Iggy.
12. ‘Cake’ – B52’: Kate again and how to make a cake with some jubilant electro-pop. Or is it really about a cake? I just can’t wait to eat it.
13. ‘Red Vines’ – Aimee Mann: I know Paul Thomas Anderson’s first movie is titled ‘Cigarettes and coffee’ and since he and Aimee have a mutual admiration (she did the music for ‘Magnolia’) this song must have some connection with him as she says ‘With cigarettes and Red Vines’. There is a cinematic feeling for sure,… oh but what about the sweets?
14. ‘Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk’- Rufus Wainwright: An innocent song not very innocent… burning desires of those other things, but he only mentions chocolate milk and jelly beans,… childish cravings!
15. ‘Just Like Honey’ – Jesus and Mary Chain: A haunting melody, so slowly delivered. Sometimes food, even the sweetest one, can be disgusting.
