The most shocking thing in Brett Easton Ellis’ exercise in ennui “Less Than Zero” was when the kids were watching a boot video of Star Wars before its genereal release in cinema houses.
Now that is shocking.
Also: it coined the term “Disappear here” which I use ALL THE TIME.
Still, I found everything else a little all this and no surprises at the time though I still admired its West Coast sang froid in the face of some pretty yucky going ons.
And twenty-five years later here comes the sequel, “Imperial Bedrooms” to be published June 15th. I just got conned after being told Martin Amis’ dreary new novel was a return to form and so though the Voice gave it a rave, I hope Ellis’ isn’t to “Less Than Zero” what Costello’s “Imperial Bedroom” was to Costello’s own “Less Than Zero”.. The former? Really, really good. The latter, flat out brilliance.
Any way, for the sake of ten bucks on my kindle I will risk it… That’s June the 15th for you literary types.
