I have a friend who is trying to break a band and everybody is talking nonsense about how the major labels are dead. Dead? How are they dead? They aren’t as profitable as they once were but why is everybody claiming it isn’t the best way to break into the business?
Who is gaining from this? Somebody must be. Maybe it is better right now for the majors to appear weakl. It is a good negotiating tool.
Let me give you some advise.Thom fucking Yorke (who did sign to a major) opinion not withstanding, if you get offered a contract my a major label, get a smart lawyer, study the contract, and sign it.
