The last time I saw Il Divo, they were joining Barbra Streisand on stage at Barclay Center, and acquitting themselves as well as could be expected during a brainiac smart concept of having Babs split her show in half so she could have a rest.
But not enough for me to rejoice at this though you very well might: “Broadway audiences who have grown accustomed to ever-shrinking pit orchestras have a pleasant surprise waiting for them when they come to see Il Divo present its new album of Broadway standards, A Musical Affair, at the Marquis Theatre. Twenty musicians will be accompanying the incredibly successful vocal quartet on some of Broadway’s most beloved songs, spanning more than 50 years’ worth of material. Such classic songs as “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Some Enchanted Evening” are included, along with more contemporary material like “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” which is currently available for streaming on Broadway Direct”
I don’t think I’ll ever be the target audience for this one, my own taste in classical is harder and my own taste in Broadway is not to having Italian boy bands sing it. Il Divo are playing November 8th through November 13th, with the 10th off. And if it makes any difference, I am betting women in the tri-State area will show up for this one.
Plus, 20 musicians? That’s hot right? That’s gotta be hot.
Here they are Abbaing to within an inch of its life
