Ever wished you lived in London?
No, me neither, but you might wish you did now. Van Morrisson and Mick Hucknall are coming together to perform a one night only concert in the capital city to tribute the late greatest Blues singer ever Bobby “Blue” Bland, who died earlier this year at the age of 83.
Whatever your feelings about Mick are, there is no doubting his true affinity for soul and blues (he called his first solo album Tribute to Bobby) and as for Van Morrison, this is the sound that he cut his teeth. The thing with Bland, the man began his career as BB King’s driver, till, with a voice like that he had to move on to working with King, is that he is something so great that even the greatest singers can only hope tor each.
Morrisson is one of the greatest singers of all time and Bland is better than he is, so make of that what you will. Or at least make this. According to contactmusic.com: “Former Simply Red star Hucknall even named his debut solo album Tribute to Bobby after his all-time hero, and now he is joining Brown Eyed Girl hitmaker Morrison for a special gig in London. Van Morrison & Mick Hucknall’s All-Star Tribute to Bobby Bland will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on 01 November (13).”
The most you could dream of is It’s Too Late To Start Now, or some part thereof, come to life, and I wish I was there. And that’s true.
