After a member of rock nyc’s Justice For Elliott Smith claimed we blew our credibity through “High School Level” grammer and spelling, Alyson Camus quoted Vampire Weekend and asked “Who gives a fuck about an oxford comma” and I said who gives a shit.
here is what the member initally wrote:
“No offense, but this whole thing might seem a little more credible if you had at least run a spell check through this “story.” Deleting extra spaces and putting in ones where necessary would have been at least post-high school.. Journalists and editors are the protectors of English and truth. Based on that, this is little more than ridiculous. Please don’t make a mockery of his life and death. You certainly did blow any credibility you had.”
Pretty fucking nasty and she is lucky Alyson got to her first because Idda ripped her to shreds for this arrogant rubbish.
So yesterday this woman sent me a personal message:
“I meant no disrespect to you or the cause with a message I posted recently. I even stated that. My concern is this: You are representing a group of people with the same interest. Some people could interpret the cause to be immature or badly researched or less credible because of simple punctuation mistakes. Sure, it’s a fallacy and I’m sure your research is credible. But you have to know that when something is published like that for anyone to see, it becomes available to many sorts of people and probably some who don’t care about said fallacies. What I said was said with the best intentions for your cause and the memory of a person we both respect. Please know that. That being said, I am withdrawing from the group because I think it is horrible to be talked to as I was when all I was trying to help and provide a little insight. I have stock in this too and I care too. I care about not being looked at as a stupid kid with a conspiracy theory. How would you feel if you offered a similar suggestion to a group you cared about and was cursed at by one of the leaders? Again, no disrespect to you or your cause. I’m sure you don’t care about any of what I have to say. However, your group depends on uniting people for a cause. Please remember that. Fight the good fight and think of what your long term goals are. This should be about love and friendship, not playground curse words and harsh defenses.”
My response:
“I don’t know why I have to explain to you this shit but here it goes.

This group is soaked in blood and we are trying to clean it up.
I don’t want love or friendship, I want to reopen a court case .
Smiths life is violence followed by drug addiction followed by a very violent death.
And you are worried about fucking curse words.
Youre an idiot.”
Let me explain this again:
As a child Smith was physically beaten by his stepdad.
It lead to some great songs and it lead to drugs and alcohol addiction.
By the age of 34 when he was discovered with two stab wounds in the heart and died. There were no illegal drugs nor alcohol in his system.
His girlfriend at the time is complicit in his death.
The LAPD botched thecrime scene investigation.
His family knew if they pursued it, Smith’s stepfather would be in deep trouble so they didn’t.
And we are trying to get the case reopened.
I don’t want love.
I don’t want friendship.
I’m leading nobody anywhere.
I want people who loved Elliott Smith’s music and want justice done to join the Facebook page.
And I can’t deal with people like that woman above.
I don’t have the patience for this shit.
Alyson and I are trying to get justice done. Either lend a hand or get out of the way.
