49. I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston – 1992 – Today it is her signature tune and at the time nobody believed for a moment that Dolly Parton sang it. Still, listening to it, you can hear echoes of everyone since, every Beyonce and Kelly, echoing through her vocal – A+

48. No One – Alicia Keys – I guess everybody has one greats ong in em and this is Alicia’s masterpiece. Not enough to forgive years of crapm, but the real deal for sure. PS very Whitneyish I might add – A

47. Candle In The Wind (1997) -Elton John – 1997 – For Princess Di and pretty lousy albeit heartfelt – C

46. Call me Maybe – Carly Rae Jepsen – 2012 – Smash novelty tune went exothermic mostly because the hook was so open ended it lent itself to parody – B+

45. Shadow Dancing – Andy Gibbs – 1978 –  terrific disco ballad handed right over by his brothers and he, with the brother Gibbs performing back up, it was a smash. And then he drugged himself to death – A
