Take Me Out To Centerfield

There are three great baseball songs
a) Take Me Out To the Ballgame
b) Brown Eyed Handsome Man
c) Centerfield
There is no seventh inning stretch without “Take Me Out To The Ballgame”. “America the Beautiful” is just a nuisance before we get there. Though “it’s a shame”??? That’s all you got for me? “Brown Eyed Handsome Man” would be best of all but Jackie Robinson only heads for home in one verse. Still, it is good enough for Fogerty to quote Chuck Berry in his ode to the greatest position of all. Centerfield (or the best when Joltin’ Joe was playing it).
John Fogerty’s ode to o pening day is just wonderful. A buncha hand claps, a fabulous acoustic guitar lick a, role of drums and the sun is shining and there it is: “look at me, I could be, centerfield”. It chokes me up, I sware. Especially since the Yanks won Friday night when my niece (and rock nyc writer) Louba Lababedi got tix from her big time job in advertising where she is more popular (which figures) and  better (which doesn’t at all) at than I am. Louba  took me, her Mom and her brother, to those fancy all you can eat seats Sixth row off 3rd base!!!
Whoops I lost my train of thought: “Centerfield” is a joyous song and a tribute to the greatest game of all and  The Baseball Hall Of Fame agree and are inaugurating the song 25 years after it was released. Fogerty will be playing on July 25th in Cooperstown…
