Cherrie Currie the wood carving expert we know, right? And mean, who hasn’t heard how the former Runaway fell in and out of drugs before straightening out and changing her life. Yes folks from teen bait stockings and garter belt lead singer and face of the Runaways (it is Cherie on the cover of “Cherry Bomb” folks), her story read like a “how to book’ on self-exploitation. When I interviewed Joan Jett in 1982 she claimed it was a case of people not accepting that the Runaways could be a female equivalent to a male rock and roll band doing drugs, having sex, partying…

And Cherrie, and the Runaways, fell apart as spectacularly as any one ever has, and after Cherrie quit the band, they kept on going without her, till Joan and manager Kenny Laguna came together to reformat Jett into the steamrolling rock and roll star we now know and love.

And Cherrie, wait till you get this one, had a TWIN SISTER named Marie Currie who formed a band together and you gotta think, right? Google some pictures, folks, it is sick and awesome. Like mindbending…

Where was I?

Oh yeah, I loved Cherie fine with the Runaways, didn’t really notice her solo career, caught up with her (like everybody else) with “The Runaways” movie came out and discovered she was a carpenter and I was a lady. Then she friended and unfriended me on Facebook and on November 6th, Cherie will be performing at Gramercy Theater.

Will I be there? Yup. I’m guessing there isn’t a chance in hell she’ll make an ass of herself so we will get powerful versions of Runaway songs by the voice that sang em to begin with. Stockings and heels I am not expecting but if her current pix are anything to go by, that would be entirely her prerogative.

A Wednesday, which kinda sucks, but suck it up cupcake. Cherie Currie at the Gramercy November 6th! Unmissable.
