Around two years ago, when 4 was first released, i was of the opinion that Beyonce had jumped from R&B singer to serious mega supa-dupa star. But then in quick succession she played a lousy show at Roseland, stopped babies being visited by their parents at the hospital her daughter was born in, sucked at the Superbowl and called her tour the Mrs. Carter show. So, well, so she went back to being a another r&b diva. On Saturday night Beyonces tour reaches Barclay Center? Diva or dynamite? You gotta to go to find out…
Monday – The Lumineers – Terminal 5 – A terrible live band in the worst venue on earth… it is almost irresistible
Monday – Ben Howard – Summerstage – He is like one of those no shoes surf singers only from England
Tuesday – Frank Turner – MHOW – I don’t buy in but Mary Magpie swears by this folkie
Tuesday – Justin Bieber – Prudential – I thought he sucked at MSG but having said that, anybody who is this hated by the grown ups can’t be all bad.
Tuesday – Beth Orton – The great tall glass of water and Ryan Adams is just pouring her down his sink.
Wednesday – Slick Rick – Stage 48 – Original pimpster still likes ta party
Thursday – D’Angelo – Park At Williamsburg -In many ways this is bigger than Beyonce, I bet he still has it.
Friday – Beres Hammond – Hammerstein Ballroom – One of our greatest Reggae performers and not in jail or dead
Saturday – The Psychedelic Furs – If you read Alyson’s review last week, there should be no second guessing on this one. I just wish Richard would bring back Love Spit Loves
Saturday – Vince Clark DJ Set – LPR If I was young again, I’d have rushed from Beyonce to see this from the Erasure/Yaz/Depeche Mode genius
Sunday – Beck – Prospect Hall – Fourth gig in three days
Sunday – Black Sabbath – PNC – Yeah, and not one gig in NYC? That’s the ticket.
