Biggie Smalls was the greatest rapper of all time. With only two albums and the stuff with Junior mafia and various “features” to his name Biggie had the best, flows, the best voice, the best rap and the best rhymes.Twelve years after his murder and nobody in the hip hop community comes close. First runner up Jay-Z isn’t in the same league. Never has been.
Listening to all three sides of the original Biggie CDs is a breattaking experience and if you throw in the Junior MAFIA and Lil Ki’s Hardcore, it is as profound a statement of the pleasures and pains of rap (and of the Black American experience) as you will ever. Wide eyed but not innocent, “You’re either slinging crack rock or you’ve got a wicked sling shot” Biggie lived it, rapped it, brought it on.
Today would’ve been Smalls 38th birthday.
A devastating loss for the rap community.
