Far be it for me to be difficult, good luck to Damon Albarn getting money to Syria with his charity single. Except, hey, is that Oxfam they are sending the money. If you can’t trust Oxfam… so OK. Gimme the link, I’ll pony up the dough…
Syria is a land whose only heroes are its citizens. And their choice is between an Islamic republic and a dictatorship: which is worse? Is Iran better in 2013 than it was in 1975? For the majority of people the answer is probably yes. Would Syria be better with Assad gone -I mean for Syrians not for the US. Probably. The Government would cut off your head for dancing in the street but at least you could by a hamburger if you are hungry and read a book (the point being literacy not availability), though the only book available will be the Koran.
Anyway, if there is a way to get food and water to the folks of Syria trust Oxfam to do it. I think they are sending the relief to camps where Syrians have been displaced.
But how much will there be from Damon’s Charity? Supergroup Fresh Touch is Flea, Damon Nick Zimmer of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand who will be releasing”Latest Style” on vinyl for some annual Independent Label gig in London. 50 singles. All numbered. On sale July 17th. All proceeds going to charity.
There are actually ten records available, and Oxfam will be holding an auction on ebay for the lot according to Consequence Of Sound.
Here is a list of the lot of them:
