Loser – Gov’s Ball – After failing to heed my constant warning that the Festival was too early, Gov’s ball got hit with a hurricane, the first day was a monsoon, the next two days were foul smelling swamps. That’s loserdom enough. But Randall’s Island now needs resodding, two other festivals have been cancelled, as was Mayor Bloomberg’s annual party at which he is furious. I have little doubt the City’s Park will cancel all future festivals on the sight, Gov’s Ball are paying to fix the havoc they’ve caused but you and I are stuck with the overtime bills. And as for next year. They better have a plan b or c or d because plan a won’t happen again.
Winner – LES Bands Of The Early 1980s – Both Jahn Xavier’s update of the Nitecaps and the del-Lords have spent the week on the top of their game. Though I missed the majority of it, I have no doubt at all that their concert at Bowery Electric was magnificent. No less the Bowerytones Yes, You, a superb piece of agitprop that is instantaneously one of the best albums of 2013. It is better then Go to The Lne, which was pretty awesome to strt with.
