“Mahalia Jackson: The Power and the Glory”? That’s the 1997 bio of the greatest Gospel singer of all time, and Summerstage will be presenting a screening of the movie on Saturday. Along with performances by Della Reese and the mind boggling Joshua Nelson. If you have never seen Redman, he is a thrilling live performer who would blow the roof off Summerstage if it had a roof.

Hanson – Monday And Tuesday – Irving Plaza – Anita Faragher’s favorite band, well past their commercial prime but as good a rock and roll band as you will ever hear, have a two day residency. Sold out of course.

Joan Baez – Monday – Summerstage – If she was a baseball player, she’d have four pitches she could throw you out with.

The Roots And My Morning Jacket – Tuesday –  Prospect Park Bandshell – I wouldn’t go if you paid me but I’m not you.

The Dirty Pearls – Tuesday – Mercury Lounge – New York City is a drug? So is Dirty Pearls, the out of time hard rocking band whom our pals at Guitar Shop TV swear by.

The B-52s And The Go Gos – Wednesday –  Roseland – I hate Roseland but they are selling 1st Mezz tickets nowadays. Plus I’ve never seen the Go Gos live and even without Kathy I am going.

Ian McLagen – Wednesday – Iridium – The small face was awesome when I saw him last year at Joe’s Pub.

LL Cool J – Thursday – Roseland – The problem with this line up which includes Public Enemy and De La Soul, is LL Cool J  who will bragging along one of the worst albums of his career. I’m still mulling it over.

Mikal Cronin – Thursday – Bowery Ballroom – Indie stalwart has a killer new album.

Daft Phunk: The Tribute – The Canal Room – Thursday – Eight piece band brings to hotter than ever EDM monsters to live. Sounds like fun.

Dawwes – Saturday – Terminal 5 –  If it doesn’t sell out, it might be a good way to see the So Cal Jackson Browne fans.

Social Distortion – Sunday – Warsaw – Brooklyn gets the bad boys for a night.
