My obsession with all things Kweezy has been growing since he blew me away at MSG last December. But round our way word is more skeptical with the casual fans. They weren’t particularly thrilled by the SNL performance, they aren’t particularly thrilled by his distracting angry. I mean, when has mainstream culture been thrilled by angry black men? And the feeling is even from a great distance that Yeezus was gonna be a flat out disaster.
I can’t believe anybody who saw the randall’s Island set was blown away but people are strange and any way they wanna be forced fed a little. Kweezy might not care if he is on the radio but it sure helps if you are in the market to sell records. In a sense, his position isn’t dissimilar to when Prince was writing slave on his face: they equate compromise with failure; more important than good and bad was freedom; though the name of the game is popularity, real freedom is the freedom not to care about popularity. “Kanye was my slave name. Yeezus is my God name”. Sound like anybody you know?y
Still, it is too early to figure out what Kanye has wrought. This is what he said at a listening party: “We didn’t give a fuck about what anybody else said, outside looking in, we just wanted to make the best product possible This is just the beginning of a new reality I have to make music people directly for the people. It’s about delivering some shit for y’all to listen to.”
Perhaps and I must admit I am a big fan but I listen to music all day long, and this is a specialists sound.
