I was arguing with a writer about the best length of an album, he claimed 40 minutes tops and he may have a point. But what is for sure 100 minutes tops out a summer action. “Fast & Furious 6” is 125 minutes and that extra 25 minutes is top heavy. The movie is too boring for too much of the time.
You know the drill: Vin Diesel lines up the usual suspects, Michelle Rodriguez back for the dead, Tyrese, Ludacris, the Rock as the cop, Jordana Brewster criminally underused and gets them out of retirement to foil a master criminals plan to make a techno weapon which can blind a country to oncoming attacks for 24 hours. And that’s much more back story than I should have had to write. It’s the same old bang bang zoom zoom.
There is some blithering nonsense about family and codes and in the last 45 minutes two action packed scene, one with a tank roaring down the freeway and the other with a huge plane and the F&F teams attempts to foil its attempts to lift off. That final scene is an orgy of ultra violence, cars chasing planes and punch ups.
But geting there is a slog. For some reason every thing that happens in London should have probably stayed in London and the rounding up the gang is a drag and a bore.
But by the end you are willing to give the film makers a clap on the back for a fair to middling way to kill a coupla hours.
The music was OK, especially Bart B Moore’s remix of Peaches “More” which plays during the tank scene. 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa’s “We Own It” is OK, nothing.
